Have I told you how much I love the rain? Because I do.

Some people question where the foundation of youth is. For me its underneath the tires on my bicycle (or tricycle).

One of the things I’ve learned from witnessing civilization after civilization after civilization, is that one should never underestimate the profound resiliency of the human spirit, nor how swiftly things can change for the better – often overnight.

Whether outwardly or inwardly, whether in space or time, the farther we penetrate the unknown, the vaster and more marvelous it becomes.
Take chances.

I believe…
That people are inherently good.
Creativity should not be bound.
That love should be shared.
You are here for a purpose. So am I. Do what you can while you can.
That compassion is one of the most important traits for people to posess–yet so few do.
You should follow your heart.
In eating cereal for dinner.
That civil service humbles you.
In having too much fun.
Dreams are worth following.
That there is no material possession that I couldn’t go without.
My friends all have something absolutely amazing about them.
In the Dallas Cowboys.
That music can create and end revolutions.
In being barefoot.
Someday I will settle down.
That you only live once.
In taking chances.
In you!

Surprise, Surprise January 24, 2009
Sometimes people can surprise you. Maybe they are just being nice, maybe they are following some unwritten-rule, or maybe they are just doing what they think is right.
My Dad’s Dad, technically my Grandfather, passed away on Thursday. My parents moved to Texas from Ohio 35 years ago and never looked back; hence I call him my Dad’s Dad because I have only met him once which was about 6 years ago. What I do remember about him is that he was very tall and had these amazing blue eyes. When he talked he smiled with them and when he talked about my Dad he just beamed.
Well, it looks like I will have to wait quite some time before I can hear the stories about my extended family, what it was like to grow up during the Great Depression, or what it was like to be on the front lines in WWII. I’m a patient person though. I do know that only one person in each generation of my family has received the “gift” of the blue eyes: my Dad’s Dad, my Dad, and me. From what I remember when I met him and what everyone says–he was a good man.
I found his obituary online and I am very surprised that after 35 years of no contact that my family is included.

2008 Has Sailed Away… January 8, 2009
Dear 2008,
Your sails seem to have filled and carried you away as quickly as they blew you in, but in retrospect you were definitely my favorite year yet. From San Francisco to Chicago or Las Vegas to Kalamazoo you were the wind that blew me on a moment’s notice.
You were a year of change.
Thanks to you I found true, genuine people who I now call my best friends. What would you have been like, 2008, have been like if I hadn’t introduced myself to Andy that night at Hailey’s in Denton? I may have never met Amy, Whitney, Brad, Jessi, Shelby, Sarah, or the rest of the crew I now call my best friends.
You laughed as I started dating again knowing that those few I went on would all be one-date-wonders. Hey, you can’t say I didn’t try.
You were a year of firsts.
You took me from living in my house in Dentonia, to a loft in Las Colinas, and now to my condo in Dallas. Our sails were at 30 knots for L.A., but that will come another year. We went through rough waters and mangled a Solstice–I’m very thankful that we continued to see you after that ride. You followed me as I quit Neiman Marcus Corporate to work for Colemont Brokerage Group Corporate and guided me as I started my own online business. You cried when I went brunette, sighed relief when I became blonde again, praised the Heavens when I became a Godmother, danced when I got back on the runway, cringed when I got a tattoo on my wrist, applauded when I began my Master’s degree, and played along with me as I became a volunteer coach at the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
You were a year of fun.
Though the mast of 2008 has been drawn in and I bid you farewell, I am happy to say that it was an epic year.
Thank you friends, family, and you, 2008, for sharing all these memories with me.
So long. Farewell.
Sail her, don’t sink her.

Hello There 2009!
There are many things in the works just one week in, and I am excited to see what you have in store for my friends and me for the other 51 weeks!
I will be flying by the seat of my pants this year, so don’t be alarmed if I have autopilot on from time to time. I’ll try not to close my eyes too much if we hit some turbulence. You only live once, right?
Here’s to good music, great friends, and more classic times!
Up, up, and away!
